Since the 1950s, my life has been framed by destruction. I grew up in the aftermath of World War II, navigating the rubble of a leveled Warsaw. Back then, the ruins were made of stone and history; today, the ruins are made of vanishing species and broken ecosystems. The 6th Extinction series is my attempt to document this ongoing tragedy. It connects the physical wreckage I played in as a boy to the ecological wreckage I witness as a man. It is a visual history of a planet being dismantled, seen through the eyes of someone who has known the language of ruins since birth.
