Warambul (2026)

Warambul is an immersive, 18-foot exploration of the Milky Way, titled after the Gamilaraay name for our galaxy. This work is a personal attempt to bridge the gap between abstract painting and the precise, silent architecture of the cosmos. ​The composition is anchored by a golden core, representing the galactic bulge, and bisected by a horizontal dust lane. This central focus is inspired by Indigenous traditions that find sacred meaning within the "Great Emu"—the dark voids and shadows of the night sky—rather than just the light of the stars. ​While the painting’s physical span is governed by the logic of the Golden Ratio (1.618), the surrounding line work serves as a modern "songline" for the invisible forces science is still uncovering—gravity, dark matter, and the vast unknown. Tucked within these swirling forces on the right-hand side is a single, subtle mark: a humble reminder of our Solar System’s place within this galactic scale. ​Warambul is an invitation to stand before the infinite and find a sense of belonging in the geometry of the stars.
