Brothers in Warsaw (1992)

This oil painting was finished in early 1990s and it is about two brothers growing up in the city of Warsaw after WW2. The year is 1958, the older brother is 15 years old and he is going to take his younger 4 year old brother for a ride on his brand new bicycle. The bike is a GDR built, black sport "Diamant". The two brothers are standing in the playground outside their apartment. The apartment is in one of the newly built brick buildings and the playground is a football field size yard filled with ruins of buildings destroyed during the 1944 Warsaw Uprising. Their sisters are nearby and are playing on a carpet hanger made out of iron pipes called "trzepak". This painting is dedicated to my three beloved siblings: Włodek, Zdzisia and Mirka and our glorious city of Warszawa.
